Catherine (Cathy) Musco Garcia-Prats is a wife and mother, a former first grade teacher, an author, and motivational speaker. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola University New Orleans. She and her husband Joseph A. Garcia-Prats, M.D., a practicing neonatologist at Baylor College of Medicine and Professor in the departments of Pediatrics and Ethics, have been married 35 years and are the proud parents of ten sons ranging in age from 33 to 15—from a pediatrician to a freshman in high school.
Cathy and Joseph are the authors of the bestseller Good Families Don’t Just Happen and Good Marriages Don’t Just Happen. They lecture nationally and internationally, individually and as a couple, on parenting, family, marriage, and relationships. The Garcia-Prats family has appeared on many television programs including The Oprah Winfrey Show, the Gayle King Show, American Journal and Primer Impacto. They also have been featured in many major newspapers and magazines throughout the United States. In 1998, Family Services of Greater Houston honored the Garcia-Prats family as “Houston Family of the Year.” Cathy and Joseph are the 2009 recipients of the “Standard of Christ Award” presented by the Jesuit Volunteer Corps South.
Outside of her writing and motivational speaking, Cathy volunteers with her church, her sons’ school and sports activities as well as the community. She presently serves on the board of Family Services of Greater Houston and the founding board of Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School of Houston. Cathy and Joseph have been sponsor couples for their parish marriage preparation ministry for 27 years.
